At Paria Outpost, we
provide scenic tours, shuttles, and lodging for the Buckskin Gulch, Coyote Buttes, White Pocket, Paria Plateau, and the Grand Staircase areas.

We offer a photo or scenic tour that can be completely customized to your agenda.  We are friendly, open, and personable, and our goal is to show you as much beautiful country while providing as much information about the area as desired.

Even if you are a professional photographer, we can take you to world famous and little-known spots.  Our start times are flexible, and we look forward to getting up early to help you capture that sunrise spot.

If your are interested in a sightseeing photo tour, we will cover as much ground as possible to show you multicolored formations, Native American sites, Petroglyph Panels, Fossil Evidence, and breathtaking vistas.

We customize our scenic tours to fit your schedule, desires, expectations, and ability levels.  We vary from all-day hikes, to all-day four wheeling, to a combination adventure.

We can arrange a catered 2 day photo workshop with a local photography specialist, including an overnight at an inspiring photo destination.

There is much more than one could see in a lifetime in our immediate area, much less in a day, so we plan your trip after talking with you and analyzing your expectations.

We Are The Closest Facilities to the Following Areas:

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

The Grand Staircase-Escalante abounds in fossil evidence with shallow sea life to dinosaur territories.  Grand Staircase-Escalante also offers many different rock formations perfect for many an aspiring photographer.

Vermilion Cliffs National Monument

Also known as the Paria Plateau, the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is a vast plateau enclosed on three sides by 1000 foot cliffs.  Coyote Buttes and White Pocket are located in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.

The Coyote Buttes

The Coyote Buttes is possibly the most colorful and multi-shaped areas on Earth.  The world famous feature known as “The Wave” is a short 2 hour hike in the Northern Coyote Buttes.  South Coyote Buttes is a much more diverse area, but is only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles.  Additionally, BLM permits are required for the Coyote Buttes.

White Pocket

White Pocket is a relatively unknown and extraordinary spot on the remote Paria Plateau.  While only accessible through miles of deep sand by experienced four-wheel drivers, seeing this unbelievable and extremely unique formation is well worth the trip.

Paria Wilderness Area

The Paria Wilderness Area is situated between the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument.  The area includes the Buckskin Gulch and the Paria River from the White House to Lee’s Ferry.  The Paria Canyon showcases a world-famous hike that requires four days to complete.  Water is available in the canyon.

Buckskin Gulch

The Buckskin Gulch is the world’s longest and deepest slot canyon.  It joins the Paria River 7 miles down from the Whitehouse Trailhead.  The 21 mile hike is highly recommended as an overnight trip, but it is possible to do it in one day.  Not for the claustrophobic or casual day hiker, it requires adequate preparation and a deliberate commitment.  It is also accessible by the Middle Trail, an ancient Anasazi Route, but it is highly recommended that you are in excellent agile condition to trek this path.

Anasazi Ruins and Petroglyphs

In 1300 A.D. the Anasazi Indians vanished after roaming and hunting.  Some of their remnants are within walking distance to the Paria Outpost.  Both Anasazi ruin sites and Petroglyph panels are accessible throughout the area.

Permits

Permits are required from the B.L.M.  for overnight trips in the Buckskin Gulch and the Paria Canyon, as well as for day use in the Coyote Buttes Areas.
Go to www.az.blm.gov/paria to reserve permits online.

SRP permit number AZ-120-2005-0043
